“say the most with the very least”
Oh how those words terrified me. Simple? Straightforward? No descriptive words? What is that? I ran when I heard these words because I am a person who complicates and overthinks everything. I am a journalism student and I cannot tell you how many articles I was forced to completely scrap just because they were too descriptive. Descriptions and complications and extras are always so much more fun than just a straightforward things
.
I have recently started an Instagram account after attending my very first instameet and I was aspiring to be like all the great Instagram accounts I saw around but it did not work out that way. I become a minimalist. My account is filled with minimalism shots and people see this as a lazy approach to photography but it is so difficult to keep things simple. I normally want to set up all these various things in a shot before I post it to Instagram but then I remember I am saying the very least by adding all these extras. Minimalism is not necessarily about having less or having only black and white standard clothes in your wardrobe. Minimalism aims at focusing on what is most important and making room for what matters.
Before I continue rambling about the patience minimalism requires let me paint a picture for you: Imagine ordering a standard burger combo. You order a cheese burger with chips and a coke and that is about R40 but then you see that you can add all these other wonderful things to your burger but they are normally priced at a ridiculous R10 per slice of extra cheese?!
Do you understand what I am getting at?.. The extras in your life normally cost you a lot more especially extras you could have done without. Sometimes we need to look at the burger and realise it needs nothing more than what is currently on there. The extras cost you something. Creating this Instagram account challenged me in more ways than I realised. There were extras I had to remove in my personal life and I had to be more consistent in order for the “greater view of the feed” to look attractive. All instagrammers will say that the way in which they run their account is by keeping a consistent feel or look. Whether that is by keeping a blue light, having plain white walls in all their photos or posting just portraits. Consistency is the key to success.
Your life should be treated as an instagram account. Consistency in posts make a feed look beautiful and that does not mean every shot is a beautiful one. The bad shots still add up to a great looking feed. Great accounts are interactive accounts (this does not include celebrity accounts) You need to be present in your life and communicate with those that communicate with you and it is more than okay to delete hater comments. Edit a post that will fit into the feed you want to create. So basically edit your life to fit into the goals you have for your life and focus on the bigger picture the details will just make you sad and enjoy it. Enjoy your life and press that follow button and make it green on your own life. You do not want to fall behind on who you are as a person it is okay to cheer for yourself.
